Starting Out …
Well, this is the very first post of my first ever blog, so I guess I should start by introducing myself and tell you a little bit about what this site is all about.
My name is Steve Hicks, I’m 22 years old and I live in a small village called Airmyn, which is in the county of Yorkshire in the North of England.
In July 2006, I completed a three year degree in Computer Science at the University of Oxford, afterwhich I decided to move home back to Yorkshire and was offered a job by Tom Cone of Digital Marketing Ltd.
So … my job - it’s probably not the kind of job you’d expect many graduates to go into once they’ve finished an intensive, and expensive three year course.
What exactly am I doing I hear you ask. The rather vague answer is all sorts! One of the main things I love about my job is that no day is the same, and when I get to work in the morning, although I have a vague idea what I’m going to be doing, that changes regularly and I end up doing something completely different. More specifically, some of the things I do include:
- Internet Marketing
- Video Editing
- Web Design
- Web Development
- Website Consultancy
- Computer Programming
- Hardware Support
- Screencasting
So as I’m sure you can see, I do a whole range of things and in later posts I’ll go into a bit more detail about some of them to give you a bit more of an insight.
And finally, onto the main purpose of the site. Throughout the course of my work, I get to investigate a lot of neat stuff on the web, great tools to make your life easier and informative site with loads of information you can apply to whatever you’re doing on the net. I also do lots of testing of certain processes and practices into web design, which can have a major bearing on the success of a site. So, because of all the great information that I come across day in day out, I’d like to share it with you here … if it can help me to advance on the net, I figure it can help you to.
